Is when it all began when the mighty Lord Ahriman and Blackmoon (David Parland) founded the war machine we now know as DARK FUNERAL. They were later joined by Draugen and Themgoroth.

The legendary, self-titled and self-financed, mini-cd is recorded at Dan Swanö´s Uni-Sound studio in January. It is released on May 4th to an unsuspecting world. And on that very same day, the band would have performed their very first gig at Luse Lottes Pub in Oslo NORWAY. After the recording sessions, Draugen (drums) leaves the band and is replaced by Equimanthorn.

The band signs to No Fashion Records, which later turns out to be their biggest misstake yet, and start preparing songs for a full-length album. After a miserable attempt to record The Secrets Of The Black Arts at Uni-Sound studios (again with Dan Swanö) the band decides to relocate to Abyss Studio and re-record the entire album. In between the studio sessions a new song was written and added to the tracklist "When Angels Forever Die". With engineer Peter Tagtgren (Hypocripsy) on board, the band finally gets the production they were looking for. Shortly after, DARK FUNERAL plays their first festival gig, Under The Black Sun I in Berlin. A few weeks prior to this gig Emperor Magus Caligula joins the band as vocalist and eventually becomes a permanent member. The band also shoots their very first video for the track "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" which is well received and played on music channels all over the world.

January 28th the bands first full-length-album "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" is released upon the masses and the album is soon licensed to Metal Blade (North America) and Mystic Production (Poland). The line-up troubles which first saw vocalist Themgoroth and drummer Equimanthorn leave is soon elevated when co-founding member Blackmoon also leaves. Fortunatly they are more than compensated with the addition of Alzazmon (drums), Typhos (guitars) and Emperor Magus Caligula (vocals/bass). With the addition of Caligula (who most of you already knew as Masse Broberg, the original vocalist of Hypocrisy) DARK FUNERAL is brought to a new level of aggressivity and intensivity. Together with Necromass the band does the Satanic War Tour I throughout Europe. Also during 1996, the line-up of Emperor Magus Caligula, Lord Ahriman, Alzazmon and Blackmoon recorded their unholy version of Bathory's "Call From The Grave" and "Equimanthorn" for the Bathory tribute, In Conspiracy With Satan. (These stunning cover tracks also appears later re-mastered for the re-titled re-release of the bands legendary debut "In The Sign…".).

The second leg of Satanic War Tour follows with Ancient and Bal Sagoth as support. Also, Dark Funeral plays their very first show in America at the Expo Of The Extreme festival in Chicago. After totally desecrating the unsuspecting American audience with their blasphemous stage show complete with impaled pigs heads on upside down crosses matched with the unholy members drenched in pigs blood and finishing the set off with Emperor Magus Caligula's firebreathing. From there the band embarks on the "The American Satanic Crusade Tour" with Usurper in support. Originally the tour was supposed to also feature Acheron and Destroyer 666, but after too many hassles, both bands had to cancel. In September, the road dogs return to the Abyss studio to record "Vobiscum Satanas". Ultra-raw and hyper-fast the unholy duo Ahriman/Caligula have delivered a record that even the last sceptics have to admit that DARK FUNERAL are spearheading Swedish black metal together with Marduk.

The Ineffable Kings Of Darkness Tour with Enthroned and Liar Of Golgotha takes place with Dominion coming into the band as a session bass player. The band also does their second major festival appearance at the Swedish Hultsfreds festival. After the festival, Thyphos is kicked out and Dominion, (who originally was a guitarist), is taken on as the bands second guitarist and Caligula reverts back to doing both vocals and bass. Before the band heads out on the "Bleed For Satan" tour, with Cannibal Corpse and Infernal Majesty, Alzazmon (drums) leaves and the bands long time friend Gaahnfaust is being added to the line-up. (He was also in DARK FUNERAL back in 1996 for a short time.)

DARK FUNERAL return overseas for another mini-tour "Black Plague Across The West" which finds the band invading, then destroying Mexico for the first time before they head north and lay to waste to the state of California. Afterwards they also embark on their longest and most successful European tour "The Satanic Inquisition" together with Dimmu Borgir.

With engineer Tommy Tägtgren DARK FUNERAL record the EP "Teach The Children To Worship Satan" at the Abyss studio B (featuring the new song "An Apprentice Of Satan" and cover-versions from Slayer, Mayhem, Sodom and King Diamond). For the EP, the band also film a live video for "An Apprentice Of Satan". DARK FUNERAL join Deicide, Immortal and Cannibal Corpse for the No Mercy festivals. After the departure of Gaahnfaust, Matte Modin (Defleshed) joins the band as a permanent member and makes his debut at the With Full Force festival. With Matte DARK FUNERAL becomes even faster and tighter. Wacken Open Air is added to the band's enormous gig-list; even a chaotic Canadian/American tour is coming to a good end. Dominion and Caligula work on their logically titled side-project Dominon Caligula while Lord Ahriman, with members of Acheron, Incantation and The Electric Hellfire Club, form Wolfen Society. Due to popular demand for the first EP, DARK FUNERAL re-releases the landmark work complete with new a new cover and never before published photos, giving the fans a true taste of the history of the band.

In January/February the band again enter Abyss Studio to record their third (and long awaited) full-length album. The new album "Diabolis Interium." With the help of producer Peter Tägtgren and studio technician Lars Szöke, DARK FUNERAL created the MASTERPIECE of their recording career thus far, a record which will surely be considered a mile-stone in the evolution of black metal in the future. Beside the usual highspeed-songs, DARK FUNERAL shows a new side, slowing down for “Goddess Of Sodomy.” “An Apprentice Of Satan”, already known from the last EP, was reworked for "Diabolis Interium." Other highlights of the CD are “Armageddon Finally Comes” and the brutal opener “The Arrival Of Satan’s Empire” (which most would agree is THE crown jewel of the Dark Funeral catalogue). "Diabolis Interium" is an absolute MUST for every serious metal-collection, not only black metal fanatics!

Due to the overwhelming positive response of "Diabolis Interium" from the public and the press, DARK FUNERAL were able to secure deals that brought their music across to a much wider audience with licenses in Japan (Soundholic Co.Ltd), Brazil (Hellion Records), Poland (Mystic Productions), Romania (Rocris Disc), Bulgaria (Rocris Disc), Thailand (S.Stack Co. Ltd), Russia (Irond Records Ltd), Taiwan, Hong Kong & China (Magnus Music). With the exceptional response to the album in Brazil which was released through Hellion Records, another local label, Somber Records licenses the band's entire back catalogue.

As soon as "Diabolis Interium" hit the streets, DARK FUNERAL once again hit the road. First they toured Europe, supported by Tidfall (NO), Anorexia Nervosa (FR) and Ragnarok (NO). On this tour the band brought in Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy) to play the bass. After this tour Mikael resumed duties with his main band. DARK FUNERAL recruited Richard Cabeza for the session bassist slot. The band also toured the US, supporting their long time friends Cannibal Corpse. With "Diabolis Interium", the Swedish radio station ROCKET 95.3 FM nominated DARK FUNERAL in the category “Best Swedish Hardrock Band”. Other bands nominated at the same time and in the same category were Breach, Entombed and Arise.

In October 2002 the band made their very first tour in the Far East. The tour included shows in Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. The band was the very first western extreme metal band to play Taiwan and Singapore. DARK FUNERAL received a warm welcome by the Asian crowd, who not only understood their brand of dark and majestic music, but also the essence of the band itself.

November 29th 2002, DARK FUNERALand MNW/No Fashion Records announced that effective IMMEDIATELY they were no longer contractually bound to Necropolis Records, who had licensed the bands 2001 masterpiece "Diabolis Interium" for North America. Official Termination of contract papers had already been delivered to Necropolis Records, putting an official end of DARK FUNERAL's tenure with said record label. This was a result of Necropolis' deliberate breach of contract with the band and label. DARK FUNERAL has since put this unfortunate incident behind them and begun moving on with the future.

After the Asian tour, guitarist Dominion felt that he could not give 100% to DARK FUNERAL and felt it was in everyone’s best interest to resign his position. He had felt his lack of motivation to dedicate himself to a full-time touring band was not fair to the band, and also wanted to explore other musical options. Dominion officially resigned upon their completion of the Asian tour. Dominion is and will always be regarded as a very good and close comrade and brother to the band.

After the Asian tour, the band begin auditioning guitarists to replace the departed Dominion. A new guitarist was found in the form of Chaq Mol, who has a long history in different local Metal acts. He is also in the two man Doom/Black Metal project Mordichrist. He made his official debut with the band at Wacken Open Air 2003.

After a successful gig at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany the band headed down to South America for a tour through Brazil, Chile and Columbia. This tour became one of the most successful tours ever undertaken by the band. During the tour the band recorded a couple of the shows with plans to release it as a live album! After sifting through the recorded material with their live sound engineer (Erik Lidbom, Hitfire Productions), “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine" was born.

DARK FUNERAL began the year by officially announcing their split from MNW/No Fashion Records. Shortly after, the band signed a license deal with Regain Records for their amazing new live album “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine”. It was licensed to several other countries. On May 31st, 2005 it also finds it´s long awaited release in the US through Candlelight USA.

In January of 2004 the band partnered with Goatwhore (US) and Zyklon (NO) in Japan on the Extreme The Dojo Volume 9. Shortly after the band continue to tour with a spate of Mexican dates. A few festivals are also being executed, Spanish Piorno Rock (w/ Sepultura, Saxon, Destruction, Lacuna Coil among others), Finnish Tuska and X-Mass Festivals. The band appears as the headline act at Germanys Party San, Swedish Nordic Rage and LA´s Gathering Of The Bestial Legions Festival. The band also hit Italy together with Defleshed for a short, but extremely successful burst of dates. In December 2004 DARK FUNERAL then resumed touring by first playing Israel and then hitting Russia and Ukraine for the Black Winter Days Tour, together with Horned NecroCannibals and Icewind Blast.

On January 20th 2005, DARK FUNERAL signed a new record deal with Regain Records. The band concentrates on writing material for a new full-length album yet still manage to perform at the Metal Mind Festival in Poland before finally joining the No Mercy Tour with Six Feet Under, Nile, Dying Fetus among others.

On May 23rd the band finally entered Dug Out Studios together with producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Behemoth a.s.o.) and Orjan Ornkloo (Misery Loves CO) to begin work on their new, long awaited full-length album. This, which will be Dark Funeral's 4th full-length studio album is also their most eagerly anticipated recording in their now decade-long career. The band brings in Gustaf Hielm (ex Messhuggha) to play the bass on the record.

On August 18th Dark Funeral's new Masterpiece "Attera Totus Sanctus" was completed! Raw, fierce, and evil, Attera Totus Sanctus will rightly reclaim the unholy bands title at the top of black metals premiere elite.The release date is set for October 24th via Regain Records in Europe and November 29th via Candlelight in the USA. Further on the album will also be released in Japan on December 21th via Soundholic Ltd and in Brazil on (TBA) via Hellion Records.

Its not very often a Black Metal band hits the charts, but on November 2nd, 2005 Dark Funerals new masterpiece "Attera Totus Sanctus" enters the Swedish album chart "Top 40" as Nr 35 and the Swedish Heavy Metal chart as Nr 3.

On February 21th Dark Funeral begins a six week long headline tour throughout Europe “Attera Orbis Terrarum Tour”, to support their new and highly acclaimed studio album. The tour becomes a great success for the band. As support the band bring Naglfar, Amoral, Endstille and Asmodeus.

And the success continues. After touring the world in support of their latest and highly acclaimed “Attera Totus Sanctus” album , they finally released their first ever DVD (2-disc´s)"Attera Orbis Terrarum-part 1 on October 15th". The DVD landed impressively as Nr 5 on the Swedish Music DVD chart. This is the first DVD in a series of two which the band has planned to release from their world touring for Attera Totus Sanctus.

Dark Funeral begin the year by announcing a release date for their second DVD set, "Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part 2". The 2-disc DVD will be released on May 22 through Regain Records. This is the second in a series of two DVDs featuring outstanding, killer material that was recorded during the band's worldwide touring for "Attera Totus Sanctus.". While Part 1 focuses on European shows, part two focuses on South American shows, where the band has a fanatical following.

Zwischen den beiden Session wird sogar ein neuer Song geschrieben und derTracklist hinzugefügt: 'When Angels Forever Die'. MIt Engineer Peter Tägtgren (Hypocripsy) bekommen DARK FUNERAL endlich die Produktion, nach der sie suchten. Kurz darauf spielt die Band ihren ersten Festival Gig beim Under The Black Sun I in Berlin. Ein paar Wochen zuvor kommt Emperor Magus Caligula als neuer Sänger in die Band und wird später festes Mitglied. DARK FUNERAL nehmen auch ihr erstes Video zum Song 'The Secrets Of The Black Arts' auf, das von Sendern auf der ganzen Welt gezeigt wird.

Am 28. Januar kommt das erste Album "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" heraus und wird schon bald darauf für Metal Blade (North America) und Mystic Production (Polen) lizenziert. Nacheinander verlassen Themgoroth und Equimanthorn die Band. Diese Line-Up-Troubles werden noch getoppt, als sogar Gründungsmitglied Blackmoon der Band den Rücken zukehrt. Zum Glück können die Abgänge mit Alzazmon (Drums), Typhos (Gitarre) und Emperor Magus Caligula (Vocals/Bass) mehr als wettgemacht werden. Vor allem Caligula (mittlerweile ist es wohl kein Geheimnis mehr, dass sich hinter diesem Pseudonym Masse Broberg, der erste Sänger von Hypocrisy, verbirgt) injiziert DARK FUNERAL eine bisher ungekannte Aggressiviät und Intensität. Zusammen mit Necromass geht die Band in Europa auf die Satanic War Tour I. Nicht zu vergessen sind die beiden Bathory-Coversongs 'Call From The Grave' und 'Equimanthorn', die in der Besetzung mit Emperor Magus Caligula, Lord Ahriman, Alzazmon und Blackmoon für das Tribute-Album "In Conspiracy With Satan" aufgenommen werden. (Diese eindrucksvollen Tracks werden später remastered und erscheinen auch auf dem Re-Release der ersten MCD, der in "In The Sign…" heißt.)

Die zweite Hälfte der Satanic War Tour folgt mit Ancient und Bal Sagoth als Support. DARK FUNERAL spielen auf dem Expo Of The Extreme-Festival in Chicago ihre erste Show in den USA. Im September kommen die Road-Dogs zurück ins Abyss-Studio "Vobiscum Satanas". Das Unheilige Duo Ahriman/Caligula liefert ein ultra-räudiges und hyper-schnelles Album ab, dass selbst die letzten Skeptiker davon überzeugt, dass DARK FUNERAL zusammen mit Marduk die Speerspitze des schwedischen Black Metal bilden.

Für die Ineffable Kings Of Darkness Tour mit Enthroned und Liar Of Golgotha kommt Dominion als Session-Bassist in die Band. DARK FUNERAL spielen ihren zweiten großen Festival-Gig auf dem schwedischen Hultsfred Festival. Nach diesem Festival wird Thyphos aus der Band geschmissen und Dominion, der ursprünglich ein Gitarrist war, übernimmt die zweite Gitarre. Caligula ist wieder für Bass und Gesang zuständig. Alzazmon verlässt DARK FUNERAL kurz vor der Bleed For Satan-Tour mit Cannibal Corpse und Infernal Majesty. Statt ihm nimmt mit Gaahnfaust ein langjähriger Freund der Band auf dem Schlagzeug-Hocker Platz. (Er war übrigens 1996 schon für kurze Zeit in der Band.)

Dieses neue Album, "Diabolis Interium" ist der bisherige Höhepunkt der Bandgeschichte. Mit Hilfe von Produzent Peter Tägtgren und Studio-Techniker Lars Szöke haben DARK FUNERAL ein Meisterwerk erschaffen, das in Zukunft sicher als Meilenstein der Entwicklung des Black Metal angesehen wird. Neben den üblichen Highspeed-Granaten hat Band bei 'Goddess Of Sodomy' das Tempo rausgenommen, was in einer mächtigen Hymne der Finsternis resultierte. 'An Apprentice Of Satan', schon bekannt von der letzten EP, wurde für "Diabolis Interium" überarbeitet. Andere Höhepunkte der CD sind 'Armageddon Finally Comes' und der brutale Opener 'The Arrival Of Satan's Empire', von dem die meisten Kritiker überzeugt sind, dass es die Kronjuwele im DARK FUNERAL-Katalog ist. "Diabolis Interium" ist ein absolutes MUSS für jeden ernsthafte Metal-Sammlung, nicht nur für Schwarzmetall-Fanatiker!

Es cuando todo empezó cuando el poder de Lord Ahriman y Blackmoon (David Parland) fundaron la máquina de guerra que ahora nosotros conocemos como DARK FUNERAL. Se unieron a ellos después Draugen y Themgoroth.

El legendario, autotitulado y autofinanciado, mini-cd se graba por Dan Swanö de Uni-Sound studios en Enero. Este es lanzado al mercado el 4 de Mayo a un mundo confiado. Para ese entonces la banda habría realizado su primera gira en Luse Lottes Pub en Oslo NORUEGA. Después de las sesiones de grabación, Draugen (batería) deja la banda y se reemplaza por Equimanthorn.

La banda firma con No Fashion Records, luego de un giro de lo que fuera un gran error, y han comenzado a preparar canciones para lo que será un nuevo álbum. Después de un esfuerzo miserable por grabar The Secrets Of The Black Arts en Uni-Sound studios (de nuevo con Dan Swanö) la banda decide mudarse a los Abyss Studio y re-grabar el álbum entero. Entre las sesiones de estudio una nueva canción era escrita y se agregó a la lista de tracks de "When Angels Forever Die". Con el ingeniero Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy) en la consola, la banda consigue finalmente la producción. Poco después, DARK FUNERAL toca en su primer festival, Under The Black Sun I en Berlín. Unas semanas antes de esta presentación Emperor Magus Caligula se une a la banda como vocalista y en el futuro se vuelve un miembro permanente. El 28 de Enero el primer disco la banda "The Secret Of The Black Arts" se libera a las masas y el álbum pronto es licenciado por Metal Blade (U.S.A.) y Mystic Production (Polonia). Los problemas que tuvieron con su primer vocalista Themgoroth y su baterísta Equimanthorn pronto se elevan al miembro co-fundador Blackmoon quien también sale. Afortunadamente ellos son bien compensados por Alzazmon (batería), Typhos (guitarra) y Emperor Magus Caligula (voz/bajo). Con la suma de Caligula (a quién la mayoría de ustedes conocieron como Masse Broberg, el vocalista original de Hipocrisy) DARK FUNERAL se eleva a un nuevo nivel de agresividad e intensidad. Junto con Necromass la banda hace el Satanic War Tour I a lo largo de Europa. También durante 1996, el line-up Emperor Magus Caligula, Lord Ahriman, Alzazmon y Blackmoon graban una versión impía de Bathory "Call From The Grave" y "Equimanthorn" para el tributo de Bathory, In Conspiracy With Satan. (Estas estupendas versiones también aparecen después re-masterizadas para el re-titulado y re-lanzado legendario álbum debut de la banda "In The Sign…".).

La segunda pierna del Satanic War Tour sigue con Ancient y BalSagoth como soporte. También, Dark Funeral hace su primer gran show en Norte América en el Expo Of The Extreme Festival en la ciudad de Chicago. Después de haber estado profanando totalmente al público americano confiado en su show en la fase blasfema con las cabezas de los cerdos empaladas en la parte superior de las cruces emparejadas con los miembros impíos mojados en sangre de los cerdos y terminando el show con Emperor Magus Caligula escupiendo fuego. De allí la banda se embarca en el "The American Satanic Crusade Tour" con Usurper como soporte. Originalmente se suponía que la gira también sería con Acheron y Destroyer 666, pero después de muchas molestias, ambas bandas tuvieron que cancelar. En septiembre, los perros del camino retornan a los Abyss studio para grabar "Vobiscum Satanas". Ultra Crudo e Hipe Rápido el dúo impío Ahriman/Caligula han entregado una grabación que los últimos escépticos tienen que admitir que los DARK FUNERAL son la punta de lanza del Black Metal sueco junto a Marduk.

El Inefable Kings Of Darkness Tour con Enthroned y Liar Of Golgotha tiene lugar con Dominion quien está en la banda como bajista de sesión. La banda también hace su segunda aparición en el mayor festival de Suecia Hultsfreds Festival. Después del festival, Thyphos es despedido y Dominion, (quién originalmente era un guitarrista), es tomado en la banda como segunda guitarrista y Caligula vuelve como vocalista y bajista. Antes que la banda encabezara la gira "Bleed For Satan" con Cannibal Corpse e Infernal Majesty, Alzazmon (batería) deja la banda y un viejo amigo de la banda Gaahnfaust se integra al line-up. (Él también regresaba a DARK FUNERAL en 1996 por un corto tiempo.)

Con el ingeniero Tommy Tägtgren, los Dark Funeral graban el EP "Teach The Children To Worship Satan" en Abyss studio B (ofreciendo la nueva canción "An Apprentice Of Satan" y las versiones de Slayer, Mayhem, Sodom y King Diamond). Para el EP, la banda lanza también un video clip grabado en vivo del tema "An Apprentice Of Satan". DARK FUNERAL junto a Deicide, Inmortal y Cannibal Corpse en el No Mercy Festival. Después de la salida de Gaahnfaust, Matte Modin (Defleshed) se une a la banda como un miembro permanente y da su debut en el With Full Force Festival. Con él, DARK FUNERAL se pone aun más rápido y más firme. También el Wacken Open Air es agregado a la enorme lista de conciertos. Incluso una caótica gira Americanadiense está acabándose. Dominion y Caligula están trabajando en su proyecto paralelo titulado Dominon Caligula, mientras Lord Ahriman entra en contacto con los miembros de Acheron, Incantation y The Electric Hellfire Club para formar Wolfen Society. Entre Enero y Febrero la banda entra en los Abyss Studio una vez más para grabar su tercer (y largamente esperado) álbum. El nuevo álbum "Diabolis Interium" es el acontecimiento histórico en la historia de la banda. Con la ayuda del productor Peter Tägtgren y el ingeniero Lars Szöke, los Dark Funeral han creado la OBRA MAESTRA de su carrera, una grabación que será considerada ciertamente como un hito en la evolución del Black Metal en el futuro. Al lado de sus usuales canciones de alta velocidad, los DARK FUNERAL han reducido también la velocidad para “Goddess Of Sodomy”, produciendo un poderoso himno de la oscuridad. An Apprentice Of Satan”, ya conocido desde su último EP, fue re-hecho para "Diabolis Interium". Otro momento culminante del CD es “Armageddon Finally Comes” y el brutal comienzo “The Arrival Of Satan's Empire” (que la mayoría estaría de acuerdo en catalogar este track como LA JOYA de la corona de los Dark Funeral). "Diabolis Interium" es en absoluto INDISPENSABLE para cada coleccionista de metal serio, no sólo para fanáticos del Black Metal!

Debido a la aplastante respuesta positiva del Diabolis Interium por parte del público y la prensa, Dark Funeral a sido capaz de hacer distribuciones seguras de su música para un público mucho más amplio y afianzarse en nuevos territorios como Japón (Soundholic Co.Ltd), Brasil (Hellion Records), Polonia (Mystic Productions), Rumania (Rocris Disc), Bulgaria (Rocris Disc), Thailandia (S.Stack Co. Con la acogida excepcional del álbum en Brasil el cual fue realizado por Hellion Records, otro sello local, Somber Records inmediatamente entró en contacto con la organización Dark Funeral para licenciar la banda e incluirla en su catálogo.

Tan pronto Diabolis Interium pegara en las calles, Dark Funeral una vez más tomó el camino. Primero ellos recorrieron Europa, soportados por Tidfall (NO), Anorexia Nervosa (FR) y Ragnarok (NO). En esta gira la banda trajo a Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy) para tocar el bajo. Después de este tour Mikael reasumió los deberes con su banda principal. Dark Funeral reclutó a Richard Cabeza como bajista de sesión. La banda también recorrió EE.UU., soportando un largo tiempo a sus amigos de Cannibal Corpse, Pizzing Razor e Incantation siendo esta gira también muy exitosa. Ya en Octubre del 2002 la banda hace su primera gira en el Lejano Oriente Asiático. La gira incluyó presentaciones en Japón, Taiwán y Singapur. Siendo la primera banda de metal extremo occidental que toca en Taiwán y Singapur, Dark Funeral fue muy bienvenida por el público asiático que no sólo entendió su marca de oscuridad y su música majestuosa, sino también la esencia de la banda.

El 29 de Noviembre del 2002, Dark Funeral y MNW/No Fashion Records anunciaron la efectiva e INMEDIATA culminación del contrato con Necrópolis Records a quien la banda en el año 2001 había autorizado su obra maestra "Diabolis Interium" para Estados Unidos. La Terminación oficial del Contrato ya se había entregado a Necrópolis Records, poniendo fin los Dark Funeral a dicho sello. Éste fue el resultado de Necropolis' por incumplir deliberadamente el contrato entre la banda y el sello. Dark Funeral ha puesto desde entonces este infortunado incidente a sus espaldas y a seguido hacia el futuro. Hasta ahora ningún nuevo contrato norteamericano de distribución se ha firmado.

Después de la gira asiática, el guitarrista Dominion sintió que no podía dar más el 100% a los Dark Funeral. Él había sentido su falta de motivación para dedicarse tiempo completo para hacer tour en una banda y también quiso explorar otras opciones musicales. Dominion renunció oficialmente después de realizar la gira asiática. Dominion es y siempre se considerará como un buen hermano y camarada de la banda.

Después de la gira asiática y debido a razones no especificadas, Dark Funeral decidió guardar un perfil bajo. Mientras estaban lejos del centro de atención, ellos tenían entre muchas cosas, que ocuparse en audicionar al guitarrista que reemplazaría a Dominion. Un nuevo guitarrista se encontró en la forma de Chaq Mol. Él tiene una historia larga en diferentes actuaciones locales con gente de Hexenhaus, Face Down y Necronancy. Él también está en dos proyectos Doom/Black “Mordichrist” y hará su debut oficial con Dark Funeral en el Wacken Open Aire 2003.

Dark Funeral empezó el año, anunciando oficialmente su ruptura después de tanto tiempo con el sello MNW/No Fashion Records. Poco después, la banda firmó un contrato de distribución con Regain Records para su nuevo y asombroso álbum en vivo grabado en su gira por América del Sur “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine.”

Dark Funeral acompañados con Goatwhore (EE.UU.) y Zyklon (NO) en el ‘Extreme The Dojo Volume 9’ realizaron varias presentaciones en Japón en Enero del 2004. DARK FUNERAL prosiguió su tour con algunas presentaciones en México y una aparición en el Festival español Piorno Rock en Febrero junto a Sepultura, Saxon, Destruction, Lacuna Coil entre muchos otros antes de engancharse con Defleshed para un estallido corto de fechas italianas.

Dark Funeral se encuentra actualmente escribiendo material para su nuevo álbum.

A estas alturas del tiempo, Dark Funeral no ha firmado con ningún sello discográfico. Ellos en breve comenzarán a buscar un nuevo sello discográfico para su próximo y tan esperado álbum en estudio.

El 20 de Enero del 2005, DARK FUNERAL firmó un nuevo contrato de distribución con Regain Records. La banda se encuentra todavía concentrada escribiendo nuevo material para su próximo álbum larga duración, para participar en el Metal Mind Festival en Polonia antes de unirse finalmente al No Mercy Tour con Six Feet Under, Nile y Dying Fetus entre otros.

El 23 de Mayo, la banda entró finalmente al Dug Out Studios junto con el productor Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Behemoth a.s.o.) y Örjan Örnkloo (Misery Loves CO) para comenzar a trabajar en el nuevo y tan esperado larga duración. Éste, que será el 4 álbum en estudio de Dark Funeral, es también su más anticipado trabajo grabado en su ahora larga carrera con más de una década. La banda trae a Gustaf Hielm (ex Messhuggha) para tocar el bajo en la grabación. ¡El 18 de Agosto la nueva Obra Maestra de Dark Funeral "Attera Totus Sanctus" fue completada! Crudo, feroz, y maligno, el Attera Totus Sanctus reclamará el título de la banda más impía quienes estarán debidamente en el tope del Black Metal. La fecha de publicación está fijada para el 24 de Octubre vía Regain Records para Europa y el 29 de Noviembre por Candlelight para U.S.A. Más allá el álbum también será lanzado en Japón el 21 de Diciembre por Soundholic Ltd y en Brasil por Hellion Records.

No es muy frecuente que una banda de Black Metal golpee los Tops, pero el 02 de Noviembre del 2005 la nueva obra maestra "Attera Totus Sanctus" de Dark Funeral, entró en el top 40 sueco en la posición Nro. 35 y en el Swedish Heavy Metal Tops en la posición Nro. 3.

En Noviembre Dark Funeral comenzó a trabajar con Dragon Production quien es una división de A.S.S. Concert & Promotion GmbH. Dragon Production se ocupará del tour booking de la banda en Europa

Juntamente com o Necromass, a banda parte para a "Satanic War Tour I" pela Europa. A segunda perna da turnê "Satanic War Tour" continua com o Ancient e o Bal Sagoth como bandas de abertura. O Dark Funeral também toca pela primeira vez na América, no festival Expo Of The Extreme, em Chicago. Após massacrar uma desavisada platéia americana com seu blasfêmico show, onde cabeças de porcos empaladas em cruzes invertidas juntam-se aos profanos membros da banda cobertos de sangue e terminando com Emperor Magus Caligula cuspindo fogo. Originalmente essa turnê deveria contar também com o Acheron e o Destroyer 666, mas depois de muitos problemas, ambas as bandas tiveram que cancelar. Em Setembro, os cães dA estrada retornam ao estúdio Abyss para gravar o álbum "Vobiscum Satanas". Com uma sonoridade ultra-crua e hiper rápida, a dupla Ahriman/Caligula apresentou um álbum que fez com que até os mais céticos tivessem que admitir que o DARK FUNERAL agora dividia o topo da cena black metal sueca com o Marduk.

A turnê "The Ineffable Kings Of Darkness" com o Enthroned e o Liar of Golgotha se inicia com Dominion entrando na banda como um baixista contratado. A banda também toca pela segunda vez em um grande festival, no sueco "Hultsfreds festival". Após o festival, Thyphos é chutado da banda e Dominion (que originalmente é guitarrista), passa a ser o segundo guitarrista da banda, com Calígula acumulando novamente as funções de vocalista e baixista. Antes da banda embarcar para a turnê "Bleed For Satan", com o Cannibal Corpse e o Infernal Majesty, Alzazmon (bateria) deixa a banda e Gaahnfaust, amigo de longa data da banda, é adicionado à formação. Em Janeiro/Fevereiro a banda mais uma vez utiliza o estúdio Abyss para gravar seu terceiro (e muito aguardado) álbum completo. O novo álbum "Diabolis Interium" é um marco na história da banda. Com ajuda do produtor Peter Tägtgren e do técnico de estúdio Lars Szöke, o Dark Funeral criou a obra-prima de sua carreira até o momento, um álbum que certamente será considerado um marco na evolução do black metal no futuro. Ao lado das usuais músicas ultra rápidas, o DARK FUNERAL também desacelerou seu ritmo em "Goddess Of Sodomy", o que resultou num poderoso hino da escuridão. "An Apprentice Of Satan", já conhecida no último EP, foi retrabalhada para o "Diabolis Interium".

Com a exepcional resposta ao álbum no Brasil (lançado pela Hellion Records), outro selo local, a Somber Records, imediatamente entrou em contato com o Dark Funeral para licensiar todo o resto do catálogo da banda. Assim que "Diabolis Interium" é lançado, a banda novamente vai para a estrada. Primeiramente eles excursionaram pela Europa, com o Tidfall (NO), o Anorexia Nervosa (FR) e o Ragnarok (NO) como bandas de abertura. Para essa turnê a banda trouxe Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy) para ser o baixista. Após a turnê Mikael volta a trabalhar com sua banda principal. O Dark Funeral contrata então Richard Cabeza para a vaga de baixista. A banda também excursionou pelos Estados Unidos, como banda de abertura para seus velhos amigos do Cannibal Corpse. O Pizzing Razor e o Incantation também estiveram nesse bem sucedida turnê. Em outubro de 2002 a banda realizou sua primeira turnê pelo longíncuo leste asiático. Essa turnê incluiu shows no Japão, Taiwan e Singapura. Sendo a primeira banda de metal extremo do ocidente à tocar em Taiwan e em Singapura, o Dark Funeral foi altamente bem recebido pela platéia asiática que não apenas entendeu sua música obscura e majestosa, mas a essencia da banda como um todo.

No dia 29 de Novembro de 2002, o Dark Funeral e a MNW/No Fashion Records anunciaram que a partir dessa data eles não estavam mais contratualmente vinculados à Necropolis Records, que havia licensiado a obra prima da banda, o álbum "Diabolis Interium" de 2001, para a América do Norte. Os documentos de Recisão Oficial de Contrato já foram entregues à Necropolis Records, colocando oficialmente um fim ao acordo do Dark Funeral com esse selo. Isso foi resultado da deliberada quebra de contrato por parte da Necropolis com a banda e o selo. O Dark Funeral desde então deixou esse infeliz incidente para trás e seguiu em frente com seu futuro. Até agora, nenhum novo acordo norte americano foi assinado. Após a turnê asiática, o guitarrista Dominion sentiu que não poderia mais se dedicar 100% ao Dark Funeral, e resolveu que seria melhor para todos se ele se retirasse de sua função. Ele sentiu que sua falta de motivação para se dedicar a uma banda que realizava muitas turnês era injusta com a banda, e ele também queria explorar outras áreas musicais. Dominion saiu oficialmente da banda após o fim da turnê asiática. Ele semPre será lembrado como um ótimo e próximo companheiro e amigo da banda.

Após a turnê européia e devido a razões não especificadas, o Dark Funeral resolveu sair de cena. Enquanto estavam longe dos holofotes, eles, entre outras coisas, estiveram ocupados selecionando guitarrista para substituir Dominion. Um novo guitarrista foi encontrado em Chaq Mol. Dark Funeral began the year by officially announcing their split from longtime label MNW/No Fashion Records. Shortly after, the band signed a license deal with Regain Records for their amazing new live album “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine”.

Dark Funeral partnered with Goatwhore (US) and Zyklon (NO) for the 'Extreme The Dojo Volume 9' Japanese gigs in January of 2004. DARK FUNERAL then resumed touring with a spate of Mexican dates and a festival appearance at the Spanish Piorno Rock in February with Sepultura, Saxon, Destruction, Lacuna Coil among many others before hooking up with Defleshed for a short burst of Italian dates.

Dark Funeral is currently in the early stages of writing material for a new album.

At this point of time, Dark Funeral is not signed to any label. They will shortly begin looking for a new home for their next, long awaited, studio album

On January 20th 2005, DARK FUNERAL signed a new record deal with Regain Records. The band concentrates on writing material for a new full-length album yet still manage to perform at the Metal Mind Festival in Poland before finally joining the No Mercy Tour with Six Feet Under, Nile, Dying Fetus among others.

On May 23rd the band finally entered Dug Out Studios together with producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Behemoth a.s.o.) and Örjan Örnkloo (Misery Loves CO) to begin work on their new, long awaited full-length album. This, which will be Dark Funeral's 4th full-length studio album is also their most eagerly anticipated recording in their now decade-long career. The band brings in Gustaf Hielm (ex Messhuggha) to play the bass on the record. On August 18th Dark Funeral's new Masterpiece "Attera Totus Sanctus" was completed! Raw, fierce, and evil, Attera Totus Sanctus will rightly reclaim the unholy band’s title at the top of black metal’s premiere elite.The release date is set for October 24th via Regain Records in Europe and November 29th via Candlelight in the USA.

On February 21th Dark Funeral begins a six week long headline tour throughout Europe “Attera Orbis Terrarum Tour”, to support their new and highly acclaimed studio album. The tour becomes a great success for the band. As support the band bring Naglfar, Amoral, Endstille and Asmodeus.

W styczniu zostaje nagrany w studio należącym do Dana Swanö legendarny, wydany własnym kosztem i opatrzony tym samym tytułem mini-cd. Nie poprzedzony żadnymi zapowiedziami zostaje opublikowany 4 maja. W tym samym dniu odbywa się także pierwszy występ na żywo grupy, mający miejsce w Luse Lottes Pub w stolicy Norwegii – w Oslo. Po sesji nagraniowej, skład zespołu opuszcza perkusista Draugen, którego zastępuje Equimanthorn.

Zespół podpisuje kontrakt z wytwórnią No Fashion Records, który okazuje się wprawdzie w następnych latach posunięciem niezwykle fatalnym w skutkach, lecz nie wiedząc jeszcze o tym przygotowuje utwory na debiutancki, długogrający album. Po marnych próbach nagrania „The Secrets Of The Black Arts” w Uni Sound Studios (ponownie z Danem Swanö) zespół podejmuje decyzję o przeniesieniu się do Abyss Studio i powtórnym zarejestrowaniu całego materiału. Już w trakcie sesji powstaje nowy utwór zatytułowany „When Angels Forever Die”, który tym samym powiększa listę kompozycji. Dzięki inżynierowi dźwięku w osobie Petera Tägtgrena (Hypocrisy) zespół uzyskuje taki właśnie efekt produkcji, jaki zamierzał osiągnąć. Krótko potem DARK FUNERAL gra swój pierwszy festiwalowy koncert w ramach Under The Black Sun I w Berlinie. Kilka tygodni wcześniej do zespołu dołącza Emperor Magus Caligula, zostając jego wokalistą oraz stałym członkiem. Grupa kręci także swoje pierwsze video do utworu „The Secrets Of The Black Arts”, prezentowane na wszystkich kanałach muzycznych świata.

28 stycznia rzesze wielbicieli doczekują się premiery debiutanckiego, długogrającego albumu „The Secrets Of The Black Arts”, wydanego wkrótce także dzięki umowom licencyjnym z Metal Blade (Ameryka Północna) oraz Mystic Production (Polska). Pojawiają się niestety poważne problemy składowe, gdyż po odejściu wokalisty Themgorotha i perkusisty Equimanthorna decyzję o opuszczeniu zespołu podejmuje także jego współzałożyciel Blackmoon. Na szczęście straty te rekompensuje zasilenie szeregów formacji przez nowych członków, którymi zostają Alzazmon (perkusja), Typhos (gitara) i Emperor Magus Caligula (wokal/ bas). Wraz z dojściem Caliguli (który dał się już poznać wcześniej wielu jako Masse Bromberg, oryginalny wokalista Hypocrisy), DARK FUNERAL osiąga nowy poziom brutalności i intensywności. Zespół odbywa europejską trasę „The Satanic War Tour” w towarzystwie Necromass. Także w 1996 r. skład Emperor Magus Caligula, Lord Ahriman, Alzazmon i Typhos dokonuje rejestracji własnych i nieświęcie brzmiących wersji sztandarowych hymnów BATHORY „Call From The Grave” oraz „Equimanthorn” z przeznaczeniem na album kompilacyjny „In Conspiracy With Satan”, będącym hołdem dla tegoż zespołu (oba kapitalnie wykonane covery pojawiają się również później na zremasterowanej reedycji legendarnego debiutanckiego materiału, wydanego tym razem pod tytułem „In The Sign...”).

Druga część trasy Satanic War Tour odbywa się przy wsparciu Ancient i Bal Sagoth. Oprócz tego Dark Funeral gra także swój pierwszy koncert na kontynencie amerykańskim w ramach występu na Expo Of The Extreme Festival w Chicago, gdzie po totalnie bezczeszczącym zachwyconą amerykańską publiczność show z użyciem dekoracji w postaci ponabijanych na odwrócone krzyże świńskich łbów, nie zapominając o umazanymi świńską krwią muzykami, Emperor Magus Caligula zakończył występ pokazem plucia ogniem. Grupa wyrusza również stamtąd na „The American Crusade Tour”, podczas którego rolę supportu pełni Usurper. Pierwotnie udział w tournee zapowiedziały także Acheron i Deströyer 666, jednakże w związku z wieloma komplikacjami oba zespoły odwołały swoje występy. We wrześniu obieżyświaty powracają do Abyss w celu nagrania „Vobiscum Satanas”. Ultra surowy i hiperszybki materiał stworzony przez nieświęty duet Ahriman/ Caligula pozwala przekonać nawet najbardziej zagorzałych sceptyków, dzięki czemu DARK FUNERAL przebija się do czołówki szwedzkiego black metalu, stając m. in. w jednym szeregu z Marduk.

Na potrzeby trasy „The Ineffable Kings Of Darkness” z udziałem Enthroned i Liar Of Golgotha zespół zasila basista sesyjny Dominion. Grupa pojawia się także z występem na drugim ważnym w swojej karierze koncercie festiwalowym – szwedzkim Hultsfreds Festival. Po występie tym ze składu zostaje wykopany Typhos, Dominion zaś (będący oficjalnie gitarzystą) przejmuje jego działkę, przez co Caligula oprócz partii wokalnych skupia się także na gitarze basowej. Przed wyruszeniem na trasę „Bleed For Satan Tour” z udziałem Cannibal Corpse i Infernäl Mäjesty zespół opuszcza bębniarz Alzazmon, do składu dołącza natomiast długoletni przyjaciel formacji Gaahnfaust, który zresztą w 1996 r. gościł już krótko w jej szeregach.

DARK FUNERAL ponownie udaje się za ocean, tym razem na mini-tour „Black Plague Across The West”, podczas którego po raz pierwszy poprzez swoje występy sieje totalne zniszczenie w Meksyku, potem obraca zaś w gruzy Kalifornię. Następnie wyrusza na swoje najdłuższe do tej pory i okazujące się sporym sukcesem europejskie tournee „The Satanic Inquisition” u boku Dimmu Borgir.

Wraz z producentem Tommym Tägtgrenem, bratem Petera, grupa nagrywa w Abyss Studio B Ep-kę „Teach The Children To Worship Satan” (zawierającą jeden nowy utwór „In Apprentice Of Satan” oraz covery takich wykonawców jak Slayer, Mayhem, Sodom i King Diamond). DARK FUNERAL dołącza także do trasy No Mercy Festivals z udziałem Deicide, Immortal i Cannibal Corpse. Po odejściu Gaahnfausta jako stały członek do grupy dołącza perkusista Matte Modin (Defleshed), który swój chrzest bojowy przechodzi podczas występu formacji na With Full Force Festival. Wraz z dojściem Matte DARK FUNERAL staje się jeszcze silniejszy i bardziej zwarty. Do listy najpotężniejszych koncertów dochodzi występ w ramach tegorocznego Wacken Open Air; nawet napotykające przeszkody tournee po Kanadzie i USA uwieńczone zostaje sukcesem. Dominion i Caligula skupiają się w międzyczasie na pracy nad swoim ubocznym projektem, nazwanym dzięki sprytnemu połączeniu ich pseudonimów Dominion Caligula, podczas gdy Lord Ahriman, wraz z muzykami Acheron, Incantation oraz Electric Hellfire Club powołuje do życia Wolfen Society. W związku z prośbami dotyczącymi debiutanckiej Ep-ki, DARK FUNERAL decyduje się na wznowienie tegoż materiału z nową okładką i niepublikowanymi dotychczas zdjęciami, udzielając w ten sposób swoim fanom prawdziwej lekcji historii zespołu.

Na przełomie stycznia i lutego band ponownie wkracza do Abyss Studio w celu nagrania swojego trzeciego (i długo oczekiwanego) długogrającego albumu. Nowa płyta opatrzona zostaje tytułem „Diabolis Interium”. Z pomocą producenta Petera Tägtgrena oraz asystenta technicznego w osobie Larsa Szöke, DARK FUNERAL tworzy prawdziwy majstersztyk, uznany nie tylko za najlepszy produkt w dotychczasowej karierze, lecz także i za prawdziwy kamień milowy dla rozwoju black metalu w przyszłości. Oprócz tradycyjnie szybkich kompozycji, DARK FUNERAL pokazuje również i nieco inne oblicze, objawiające się chociażby poprzez wolniejszy w stosunku do pozostałych utwór „Goddess Of Sodomy”. Na liście pojawia się też nagrana ponownie i znana już z ostatniej Ep-ki kompozycja „An Apprentice Of Satan”. Innymi mocnymi punktami programu krążka są „Armageddon Final Comes” oraz niezwykle brutalny otwieracz w postaci „The Arrival Of Satan’s Empire” (niewątpliwy klejnot w całym katalogu DARK FUNERAL). „Diabolis Interium” zostaje dzięki temu uznany za absolutny MUS nie tylko dla fanatyków black metalu, ale także i dla wszystkich kolekcjonerów dzieł muzycznej ekstremy!

W związku z pozytywnym odzewem na „Diabolis Interium” ze strony publiki i prasy, DARK FUNERAL podejmuje szeroko zakrojone działania, służące bezproblemowemu zaopatrzeniu się w ich muzykę na całym świecie, czego wypadkową stają się podpisane umowy licencyjne z dystrybutorami muzyki metalowej w Japonii (Soundholic Co. Ltd), Brazylii (Hellion Records), Polsce (Mystic Production), Rumunii (Rocris Disc), Bułgarii (Rocris Disc), Tajlandii (S. Stack Co. W czasie gdy „Diabolis Interium” podbija ulice, DARK FUNERAL po raz kolejny wyrusza na trasę. Pierwszy szlak bojowy przebiega przez Europę, gdzie band koncertuje przy wsparciu Tidfall (NO), Anorexia Nervosa (FRA) i Ragnarok (NO). Na niniejsze tournee jako basista zostaje zabrany Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy). Po występach tych Mikael musi poświęcić się jednak obowiązkom w swoim czołowym zespole. DARK FUNERAL werbuje wówczas w swoje szeregi Richarda Cabezę, który doskonale wypełnia w ten sposób lukę jako basista sesyjny. Zespół koncertuje również w USA, towarzysząc na trasie swoim długoletnim przyjaciołom z Cannibal Corpse. Dzięki „Diabolis Interium” szwedzka stacja radiowa ROCKET 95.3 FM przyznaje DARK FUNERAL zwycięstwo w kategorii „Najlepszy szwedzki zespół hardrockowy”. Innymi kapelami nominowanymi w tej samej kategorii są Breach, Entombed i Arise.

W październiku 2002 grupa udaje się ze swoją pierwszą wizytą na Daleki Wschód. W skład występów wchodzą sztuki w Japonii, na Tajwanie i w Singapurze. Zespół zostaje w ten sposób pierwszą zachodnią ekstremalną kapelą, grającą koncerty na Tajwanie i w Singapurze. DARK FUNERAL spotyka się z niesłychanie ciepłym przyjęciem azjatyckich tłumów, które rozumieją nie tylko mroczną i tajemniczą muzykę bandu, lecz także istotę i esencję samego zespołu.

29 listopada 2002 DARK FUNERAL i MNW/ No Fashion Records ogłaszają bezzwłocznie brak przedłużenia umowy kontraktowej i zaprzestanie dalszej współpracy z Necropolis Records, odpowiedzialnej za licencję dla „Diabolis Interium” w Ameryce Północnej. Oficjalne wygaśnięcie dealu z Necropolis Records przypieczętowuje oficjalny koniec kooperacji pomiędzy DARK FUNERAL a wyżej wymienioną wytwórnią. Sytuację niniejszą powodują przedłużające się rozważania amerykańskiego wydawcy o ewentualnym kontynuowaniu współpracy z zespołem. DARK FUNERAL puszcza jednak ten incydent w niepamięć, postanawiając pomimo tychże komplikacji nie stać w miejscu, lecz cały czas iść do przodu.

Po azjatyckich występach gitarzysta Dominion odczuwa, że nie jest w stanie w 100 % poświęcić się DARK FUNERAL, dochodząc jednocześnie do wniosku, że w związku z powyższym najlepszym rozwiązaniem jest rezygnacja ze stanowiska. Czuje brak motywacji do ciągłego koncertowania z zespołem, co z kolei jest nie fair wobec kapeli, chcąc oprócz tego poszerzać swoje inne muzyczne horyzonty. Oficjalnie rezygnuje dopiero po zakończeniu trasy po Azji, będąc jednak w dalszym ciągu dobrym przyjacielem, wiecznym towarzyszem, a nawet bratem zespołu.

Po zakończeniu koncertów w Azji grupa rozpoczyna poszukiwania gitarzysty, który mógłby godnie wypełnić wakat Dominiona. Nowym muzykiem zostaje Chaq Mol, znany już z wcześniejszych epizodów w kilku lokalnych grupach, w tym między innymi w dwuosobowym Doom/Black Metalowym projekcie Mordichrist. Oficjalny debiut muzyka na scenicznych deskach ma miejsce podczas koncertu grupy na Wacken Open Air 2003.

Po doskonale przyjętym występie na Wacken Open Air Festival w Niemczech, grupa uderza do Ameryki Południowej na tournee obejmujące swoim zasięgiem Brazylię, Chile i Kolumbię. Trasa ta staje się dla zespołu najbardziej udanym przedsięwzięciem niż cokolwiek innego do tej pory. W trakcie tegoż wypadu band dokonuje zapisu kilku występów celem pozyskania materiału na planowany album koncertowy! W ten sposób, po dokładnej obróbce zarejestrowanego materiału przez inżyniera dźwięku w osobie Erika Lindboma (Hitfire Productions), powstaje płyta „De Profundis Clamavi At Te Domine”.

DARK FUNERAL rozpoczyna rok od ogłoszenia oficjalnego zerwania stosunków ze swoim wydawcą MNW/ No Fashion Records. Krótko potem grupa podpisuje deal licencyjny z Regain Records na wydanie swojego niezwykłego albumu koncertowego „De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine”. Licencja zostaje rozszerzona także i na inne kraje, dzięki czemu 31 maja 2004 długo oczekiwany album doczekuje się premiery także i w USA, za sprawą amerykańskiego pododdziału Candlelight – Candlelight USA.

W styczniu 2004 zespół koncertuje wraz z Goatwhore (US) i Zyklon (NO) w Japonii, biorąc udział w festiwalu Extreme The Dojo Volume 9. Krótko potem kontynuuje występy, pojawiając się na kilku koncertach w Meksyku. Na wyróżnienie zasługuje także udział w kilku festiwalach: hiszpańskim Piorno Rock (m. in. obok Sepultury, Saxon, Destruction i Lacuna Coil), fińskim Tuska oraz X-Mass. Zespół pojawia się też w roli jednego z headlinerów niemieckiego Party San, szwedzkiego Nordic Rage oraz Gathering Of The Bestial Legions Festival w Los Angeles. Band podbija również Włochy w ramach krótkiego, aczkolwiek obfitującego w niezwykle ekstremalne sztuki mini-tour u boku Defleshed. W grudniu zespół po raz pierwszy występuje w Izraelu, następnie podbija Rosję i Ukrainę w ramach „Black Winter Days Tour”, podczas którego towarzyszą mu Horned Necrocannibals i Icewind Blast.

20 stycznia DARK FUNERAL podpisuje właściwy kontrakt z rodzimą Regain Records. Zespół skupia się także na tworzeniu materiału na nowy długogrający album, występując w międzyczasie w ramach zorganizowanego przez Metal Mind Productions największego polskiego festiwalu „Metalmania” oraz dołączając krótko potem do No Mercy Tour, odbywającego się m. in. z udziałem Six Feet Under, Nile i Dying Fetus.

23 maja grupa wkracza wreszcie do Dug Out Studios, gdzie przy pomocy producentów w osobach Daniela Bergstranda (m. in. Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Behemoth) oraz Orjana Ornkloo (Misery Loves CO.) rozpoczyna pracę nad długo oczekiwanym, długogrającym albumem. Gorączkowe oczekiwanie potęguje także ciekawość, co też DARK FUNERAL zaprezentuje tym razem na swojej czwartej już w ponad dziesięcioletniej karierze płycie. Na potrzeby sesji grupę zasila także basista Gustaf Hielm (ex-Meshuggah).

18 sierpnia nowe dzieło DARK FUNERAL, zatytułowane „Attera Totus Sanctus” zostaje ukończone! Surowy, wściekły i jak zwykle kipiący złem album „Attera Totus Sanctus” pozwala zespołowi dobić do ścisłej czołówki grup spod znaku nieświętego black metalu. Data premiery ustalona zostaje w Europie na 29 października poprzez Regain Records oraz na 29 listopada w USA za sprawą Candlelight. Płyta doczekuje się także premiery w Japonii 21 grudnia dzięki Soundholic Ltd oraz w Brazylii poprzez Hellion Records.

Nie jest częstym zjawiskiem, że black metalowy band podbija listy przebojów, lecz mimo tego 2 listopada 2005 nowy majstersztyk DARK FUNERAL trafia na 35 miejsce listy najlepiej sprzedających się albumów w Szwecji „Top 40” oraz na 3 miejsce najlepiej sprzedających się albumów w kategorii „Heavy Metal”.

21 lutego DARK FUNERAL rozpoczyna sześciotygodniową europejską trasę „Attera Orbis Terrarum Tour”, aby pokazać siłę wysoko ocenionego albumu studyjnego także poprzez występy na żywo. Strax efter inspelningen av albumet gör de sin första utomhus spelning på ”Under The Black Sun Festival” i utkanten av Berlin, Tyskland. Strax innan denna spelning träder Emperor Magus Caligula in i bandet och tar över rollen som sångare, varav Themgoroth tar sig an basen endast. Dark Funeral spelar in sin första video till låten ”The Secrets Of The Black Arts”. Videon visas flitigt på tv kanaler runt om i världen.

Albumet når stora framgångar i Sverige men också utomlands där det licenseras av Metal Blade (Nord America) & Mystic Production (Polen) mfl. Line-up problemen börjar med att Themgoroth och Equimanthorn lämnar bandet. Lyckligtvis blir de snabbt ersatta av Alazazmon (Trummor), och Emperor Magus Caligula som då även tar sig an basen. Med Caligula´s (Hypocrisy) tillkomst når Dark Funeral till en helt ny nivå av aggressioner & intensivitet. Med en line-up bestående av Lord Ahriman, Emperor Magus Caligula, Alzazmon & Blackmoon spelar Dark Funeral in två otroligt mäktiga covers på Bathory’s legendariska ”Call From The Grave” & ”Equimanthorn” till tributen ”In Conspiracy With Satan”. Dessa två cover spår släpps senare som bonus material på en ny utgåva av bandets legendariska debut MCD, nu kallad ”In The Sign…”. Kort därefter lämnar även Blackmoon bandet men ersätts snabbt av Typhos (Gitarr). Tillsammans med Necromass (Italien) gör Dark Funeral sin första Europé turné, ”The Satanic War Tour”.

Dark Funeral bestämmer sig för att fullständigt erövra Europa & ger sig ut på ”The Satanic War Tour, del 2”. Denna gång med Ancient & Bal Sagoth som förband. Dark Funeral gör även sin absolut första spelning i USA på den kontroversiella ”The Expo Of The Extreme” festival i Chicago, IL. Efter att totalt krossat den oförberedda amerikanska publiken med deras blasfemiska show, innehållande pålade grishuvuden på uppochned vända kors, band medlemmar indränkta i blod, och med ett avslutande eld blåsnings nummer av Emperor Magus Caligula, ger sig bandet ut på en kortare USA turné tillsammans med Usurper ”The American Satanic Crusade Tour”. Turnén var ursprungligen planerad att bestå av 25 datum. Acheron och Destroyer 666 skulle även varit med som förband. Men eftersom turnén var präglad av för många, och för stora problem, redan från start, blev båda banden tvingade att ställa in sin medverkan. Turnén påbörjades dock av Dark Funeral och Usurper men avlutades abrupt efter endast 5 gig.

I september återvände Dark Funeral till Abyss Studio för att spela in sitt andra full-längds album ”Vobiscum Satanas”. Den oheliga duon Ahriman/Caligula levererar nu ett ultra rått och hyper snabbt album. Och nu måste även de sista Dark Funeral skeptiker erkänna att Dark Funeral, tillsammans med Marduk, är det ledande Svenska Black Metal bandet.

I samband med att ”Vobiscum Satanas” släpps åker Dark Funeral t på en ny Europe turné "The Ineffable Kings Of Darkness Tour”. Denna gång med Enthroned och Liar Of Golgotha som förband. Strax efter hemkomst tar bandet in Dominion som session bassist. Därefter gör de sitt första framträdande på Hultsfreds festivalen. där de slår nytt publik rekord i Teaterladan (ett rekord som ännu (läs 2008) inte tagits). Efter Hultsfreds spelningen blir Typhos kickad och ersatt av Dominion (som ursprungligen är gitarrist). Samtidigt tar Caligula tillbaka ansvaret över basen. Strax innan bandet än en gång åker ut i Europa på turné, denna gång som förband till amerikanska Cannibal Corpse, lämnar Alzazmon bandet och blir ersatt av Gaahnfaust. Gaahnfaust provspelade för Dark Funeral redan 1996, men togs då inte med som permanent medlem. Det gör han inte nu heller, men erbjuder sina tjänster för att hjälpa bandet fram tills en permanent trummis hittats.

Dark Funeral återvänder till andra sidan atlanten för ännu en mini-turne "The Black Plague Across The West". Under denna turné besöker de Mexico för första gången innan de slutligen styr norrut till Californias kust. Dark Funeral återvänder till Europa för "The Satanic Inquisition Tour" med norska Dimmu Borgir, en turné som blir bandets längsta och mest framgångsrika turné hittills.

Tillsammans med Tommy Tägtgren som studio tekniker spelar Dark Funeral in cover EP´n "Teach Children To Worship Satan" i Abyss Studio B (innehållande en ny låt "An Apprentice Of Satan" samt cover versioner på Slayer, Mayhem, Sodom och King Diamond). Dark Funeral spelar även in en live video till låten "An Apprentice Of Satan" som adderas till EP´n som bonus material. DARK FUNERAL åker ut igen i Europa, denna gång med Deicide, Immortal och Cannibal Corpse på No Mercy festivals. Efter turnén lämnar Gaahnfaust över sin vacanta plats till Matte Modin (Defleshed), som tar över trummorna och blir permanent medlem. Med Matte bakom trummorna blir Dark Funeral ännu snabbare och tightare. Wacken Open Air 2000 tillkommer under sommaren och gör listan på avklarade gig ännu mäktigare. Även en rätt så tight och kaotisk mini turné i Kanada/USA kommer till en lyckad avslutning. Dominion & Caligula börjar jobba på sitt själv betitlade sido-projekt ”Dominion Caligula” medan Lord Ahriman kommer i kontakt med medlemmar från Acheron, Incantation och The Electric Hellfire Club och bildar bandet ”Wolfen Society”. Efter en längre tids efterfrågan på den utgångna debuten bestämmer sig bandet för att släppa en ny utgåva av den ”In The Sign…”. Med nytt omslag av Necrolord, innehållande samtliga låt texter samt tidigare opublicerade foton, ger bandet sina nyförvärvade fans en äkta känsla av Dark Funeral´s historia.

 I januari/februari återvänder Dark Funeral till Abyss Studio för att spela in sitt tredje album. Med hjälp av Peter Tägtgren som producent och Lars Szöke som studio tekniker skapar Dark Funeral sitt livs stora mästerverk. Förutom de vanliga och hyper snabba tempo i deras låtar saktar de ned i låten ”Goddess Of Sodomy”, vilket resulterar till en grymt majestätisk hymn av totalt mörker. An Apprentice Of Satan, tidigare känd från bandets senaste EP, är nyinspelad och finslipad till max. Andra höjdpunkter på plattan är ”Armageddon Finally Comes” och den extremt brutala öppnings låten ”The Arrival Of Satan’s Empire” (vilken de flesta påstår är den absoluta kronjuvelen i Dark Funeral´s oheliga katalog). Det nya albumet ”Diabolis Interium” blir bandets riktiga genombrott. Albumet når enorma framgångar ute I världen och lisenseras inte minst till Japan (Soundholic Co.Ltd), Brazil (Hellion Records), Poland (Mystic Productions), Romania (Rocris Disc), Bulgaria (Rocris Disc), Thailand (S.Stack Co. Ltd), Russia (Irond Records Ltd), Taiwan, Hong Kong & Kina (Magnum Music). Med extra stora framgångar i Brasilien, där Hellion Records licenserat ”Diabolis Interium, väljer Somber Records att lisensera bandets restrerande katalog. I samband med att “Diabolis Interium” släpps, ger sig Dark Funeral åter igen ut på turné. De börjar med en dryg månads turné runt Europa, med Tidfall (NO), Anorexia Nervosa (FR) och Ragnarok (NO) som förband. På denna turné lånar de in Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy) som basist. Efter turnén återgår Mikael till sina åtaganden med sitt huvudband, varav Dark Funeral rekryterar Richard Cabeza (Unanimated, Dismember) som live session bassist. Dark Funeral gör deras största USA turné hittills som förband till deras goda vänner Cannibal Corpse. ROCKET 95.3 FM nominerar albumet ”Diabolis Interium” i kategorin ”Bästa hårdrocks band”. Andra band som nominerades i samma kategori var Breach, Entombed och Arise.

I oktober gör de sin första Asien turné med spelningar i Japan, Taiwan och Singapore. Dark Funeral blir det första extrema metal bandet från väst att spela i Taiwan och Singapore. De blir till och med det första utländska hårdrocks band att spela live i Singapore sedan Metallicas spelning 10 år tidigare. Turnén blir mycket lyckad och befäster bandets namn i Asien. Efter Asien turnén känner Dominion att han inte längre kan ge 100% till ett hårt turnerande band som Dark Funeral. I samråd med sna band kollegor väljer Dominion att lämna Dark Funeral för att bereda plats till en ny gitarrist, som både kan och vill dedicera sig till 100%.

Dark Funeral håller auditions för att hitta en ersättare till Dominion. Valet faller så småningom på Chaq Mol, som har en lång historia med olika lokala underground band. Han är även aktiv med sitt två-mans band ”Mordichrist”. Chaq Mol gör sin debut med bandet på tyska Wacken Open Air festivalen 2003. Därefter ger sig bandet ut på deras första, riktiga, Syd Amerika turné med flertalet spelningar i Brasilien, Chile och Columbia. Turnén blir den mest lyckade turnén hittills för bandet. Under turnén passar de på att spela in några utav spelningarna till ett eventuellt live album. Efter hemkomst går de igenom det inspelade materialet tillsammans med Erik Lidbom (Hitfire Productions). De väljer de ut de bästa utav det inspelade materialet och klipper ihop det till ett dubbel live album “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine".

Dark Funeral inleder året med att bryta sitt samarbete med MNW/No Fashion Records. Samtidigt lämnar de in en omfattande stämningsansökan mot nämnda bolag. De licenserar ut live albumet “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine” till Regain Records. Albumet lisenseras sedan ut till flertalet utländska skivbolag, varav Candlelight (USA) är ett av dem. I januari återvänder bandet till Japan för ”Extreme The Dojo-Volume 9” tillsammans med Goatwhore (US) och Zyklon (NO). Bandet reser vidare och fortsätter turnera på egen hand i Mexiko. De fortsätter sedan med ett par festivaler spelningar, spanska Piorno Rock (med Sepultura, Saxon, Destruction, Lacuna Coil mfl), finska Tuska och X-Mass Festivals. Dark Funeral headlinar tyska Party Sun festivalen, Svenska Nordic Rage samt Los Angeles “The Gathering Of The Bestial Legions Festival”. Dark Funeral avverkar även en veckas turné I Italien med Defleshed som förband. I december besöker de Israel för första gången. Från Israel åker de vidare till Ryssland och Ukraina för ”Black Winter Days Tour”, där de har med sig Horned NecroCannibals och Icewind Blast som förband.

I januari förlänger Dark Funeral sitt samarbete med Regain Records genom att skriva på ett skivkontrakt med dem. Bandet väljer att hålla en relativt låg profil och koncentrerar sig iställetpå att skriva material till ett nytt album. Men som de hårt turnerande band som Dark Funeral är så hinner de ändå med lite spelningar, ”Metal Mind Festivalen” i Poland samt ”No Mercy Festival turnen” med Six Feet Under, Nile, Dying Fetus mfl. Den 23 Maj går Dark Funeral in i Dug Out Studios tillsammans med producenterna Daniel Bergstrand och Örjan Örnkloo (Misery Loves CO) för att påbörja arbetet och inspelningen av deras fjärde full-längds album. Bandet tar hjälp av Gustaf Hielm (ex Messhuggha) för att spela in basen till albumet. Den 18 augusti är albumet "Attera Totus Sanctus" mixat & klart. De släpps den 24 oktober via Regain Records följande av ett flertal utländska licenser (Japan, Nord Amerika, Brasilien mfl). Det är inte ofta ett Black Metal band hamnar på albumlistan, men med "Attera Totus Sanctus" befäster Dark Funeral än en gång sin ledande ställning inom Svensk Black Metal och albumet landar som nr 35 på Svenska Top 40 listan samt nr 3 på hårdrockstoppen.

Den 21 februari påbörjar Dark Funeral en 6 veckor lång Europa turné “Attera Orbis Terrarum Tour-del 1”. Som förband tar de med sig Naglfar, Amoral, Endstille och Asmodeus.
